The partition is a later addition made of blockwork, and the ceiling joists are undersized and require strengthening. On the side of the central beam where the partition is located it has become load bearing to compensate for the undersized joists. On the opposite side, the floor above dips considerably and is very bouncy. A structural engineer has proposed works to strengthen these joists that minimise changes to visual appearance and disruption to existing joists using steel angle.
